PALAMINAN MINANGKABAU; DARI RUMAH GADANG KE PANGGUNG PERTUNJUKAN

Abstract


This research focuses on the development of the form and function of palaminan in Minangkabau society. The purpose of this paper is to describe palaminan as a ritual tool in the marriage customs of the Minangkabau community and to review the development of the form and function of palaminan that occurs in the Minangkabau community which is currently increasingly diverse in form. This research uses a qualitative method with a multidisciplinary approach, observing communication, anthropological, sociological and aesthetic approaches as the main approaches. Data collection was done through literature study and field study. The results showed that palaminan is one of the ceremonial tools whose presence is very important in the marriage customs of the Minangkabau community, which is used as a seat for the bride and groom (anak daro-marapulai). Palaminan is arranged and installed on one side of the center room of the house belonging to the person carrying out the marriage ceremony. The form and function of the palaminan has developed in line with the culture of today. The occurrence of palaminan development can be expressed as a process of refinement and renewal in accordance with the conception and perception of the community, so that the meaning of palaminan in people's lives looks increasingly diverse such as palaminan as a status symbol, palaminan as an element of decoration and aisle as a source of community life.
