The Role of Principal in The Jumpa Won-Gi Program (Jumat Pagi Kliwon Berbagi) at SD Negeri Ngalian

Abstract


Abstract: Character education has become a crucial issue in addressing the moral decline and decreasing social empathy among the younger generation. This article examines the urgency of the principal’s role in managing the JumPa Won-Gi (Jumat Pagi Kliwon Berbagi) program at SD Negeri Ngalian, Tirto District, as a strategic effort to shape students’ religious and social character. The main objective of this study is to identify and analyze the principal’s role in the planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling aspects of the program. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, utilizing observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques, and data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings reveal that the principal plays an active role as an educator, manager, motivator, and transformational leader who mobilizes all school components. The program positively influences students’ behavior, fostering greater empathy and generosity. These findings offer practical contributions to the development of value-based leadership models and character-building practices in elementary education settings. In conclusion, the success of the JumPa Won-Gi program demonstrates that strong and collaborative leadership is essential to realizing effective character education. Future studies are recommended to develop measurable character evaluation instruments and explore similar programs in schools with diverse cultural backgrounds.
