LITERATURE AS A MEDIA TO ATTRACK STUDENTS' INTEREST IN "ENGLISH CONVERSATION CLUB"

Abstract


Literature can increase students vocabulary, refine their understanding of grammar and hone their writing skills. Incorporating literature into school activities, such as extracurricular activities, can be a tool that attracts students to learn English. To observe the teaching methods of English Literature at SMA Nasional Malang, we investigated the media used to attract students' attention, especially those involved in the English Conversation Club. The research focused on a mentor and three extracurricular participants. Initially, the club recruited proficient English speakers, but the introduction of literary elements attracted a wider range of students. Among the materials, Drama and Storytelling attracted the most attention from the students, these materials made them learn English indirectly. As a result, educators, realizing the lack of enthusiasm, especially in English, started applying literary principles such as drama and storytelling to invigorate the learning process.
