Abstract

Abstract. The research aims to examine the effect of the Socio-Biological Case Based Learning model on students' problem solving skills. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. The research was conducted at Al Maarif Singosari Islamic High School on the subject of the human circulation system for 11th Grade Science Class which was divided into: 1) Negative Control Group with conventional learning applied; 2) Positive Control Group with the Soc-Bio CBL model applied; and 3) Experimental Group with the Soc-Bio CBL model based on Scientific Literacy. Data on students' problem solving skills were collected through pretest and posttest and tested using the ANCOVA test. Based on the ANCOVA test, the p-value of the model shows a score of 0.00 or p <0.05, which means that the learning model has an effect on students' problem-solving skills, with a "large" effect category indicated by a partial eta squared (2) of 0.580 , which shows differences in problem-solving skills between the three research groups, namely the Negative Control Group, which experienced a decrease in score of 0.88%, while the Negative Control Group experienced an increase of 42.36%, and the Experimental Group experienced an increase of 79.20%. The conclusion from the research is that the Soc-Bio CBL model and the Soc-Bio CBL model based on Scientific Literacy have a positive influence on students' problem-solving skills.
