Journal History

Historically, Al-Arabi: Journal of Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language has been published since 2007 under the Publication Division of the Department of Arabic, Faculty of Letters, Universitas Negeri Malang.

However, at that time Al-Arabi was still being published in print and its circulation was still limited. In the printed version, published articles are written in two languages: Arabic and Indonesian.

Since 2018, Al-Arabi has transformed into a digital form by utilizing an online journal system managed by the Publication Center of Universitas Negeri Malang (journal2.um.ac.id) so that it can be open accessed to Arabic language observers around the world.

Al-Arabi has always been committed to becoming a reputable international journal. Therefore, starting from Volume 1 of the digital or online version, we will only publish articles in the two international languages used by the United Nations, namely Arabic and English. In addition, we also invited several experts in the field of Arabic and its teaching from various institutions, both from Indonesia and abroad, to be the editors and reviewers.

In 2021, we updated the Al-Arabi journal article template to make it more complete and attractive. Currently, there are two templates that authors can use, in Arabic and English.

In the 2022 reassessment, Al-Arabi received an increase in ranking, originally from rank 5 to rank 3 for Vol.6 No.1 2022 until Vol.10 No.2 2026 based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology Number: 225/E/KPT/2022, December 7, 2022, concerning the Rating of Scientific Journal Accreditation period III of 2022.
