Implementing the Memrise Application to Develop Writing Skills in German Language Education Students at UM (2023)

Abstract


Writing skills are one of the essential competencies that language learners must acquire, especially within the scope of the German Language Department at the State University of Malang. One of the challenges faced by students in writing activities is the limitation of ideas they can express in writing. As a solution to this problem, the Memrise application has been identified and recommended by the researcher as a learning medium to assist German language students who face difficulties in writing short and simple essays. This research aims to describe the application of Memrise as a learning medium for idea development in writing skills for students of the German Language Education Program (PBJ) at UM in 2023, as well as to describe the results of idea development through the use of the application. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, employing observation sheets and documentation sheets. The results indicate that the application of Memrise positively contributes to the development of students' ideas in writing skills. Therefore, Memrise can be used as an effective medium to assist students in practicing the development of ideas for writing skills.
